Windows 8.1 desktop is bigger than screen

Hi people, I just installed windows 8.1 oem on my friend's machine, after we installed the new nvidia driver,(the one from march 10th) the desktop went full retard and now it is bigger than his 40" TV, we tried to reinstall the said drivers, didn't work.

did anyone accounter that problem before? your help would be really appreciated since none of us know anything about windows 8/8.1... should've stick to win.7...

thanks you very much in advance...

I don't have the Nvidia controls nearby to look at, but there might be some HDTV scaling/overscan options in there that have to be adjusted with this combination of driver and TV set. Or check if the TV has any option to run one of its HDMI inputs in some sort of "PC mode", that can simplify such thing and even make the picture better overall for computer use. If a TV set has such a setting, or even one HDMI port dedicated for PC use, then that's really the best place to start trying to fix it.

make a custom resolution in the nvidia control pannel

I tried the custom resolution, it seems like it solved the problem, but from now on....im not dealing with people who use tv screens and I'm an AMD fanboy.

also SCREW WINDOWS 8/8.1!!!

thanks for the help guys.

when i tried to use someone's smart tv as a display the tv would display some funny low resolution until you named the input to pc-dvi

could be a similar situation

gotta love "smart" tech stuff. I like my displays simple, no smart res, no modes, just give me a quality 1920x1080 panel.
