Windows 7 x64 sp1 freezing randomly

Hey guys need help!! I've had my pc running pretty decently for last 18 months but recently i updated my hardware to a corsair rm 550 psu and 8 gigs of corsair vengeance ram,new chasis cooler master haf 912 advanced. After all this i clean installed windows 8.1 but it froze frequently so i thought may be switching back to windows 7 would sort the issue out but even after installing windows 7 64 bit thrice since last week i couldnt stop it from freezing randomly. I checked on google abt it but nothing seems to work, checked my ram they seem to be in slot perfectly. can anyone please suggest whats causing the problem and how do i fix it.
And one more thing , windows is also failing to update inportant updates since this new install i guess 18 updates is the number,i've tried it numerous times but with no sucess.
thanks for any help yo.

Try taking out the 4gb of ram. The ram could be causing an issue. Make sure nothing is overheating. If you are using a pirated version of Windows then their could be something wrong with that.

so it seems cuz yes its pirated version and out of 20 gigs installed it shows only 15.9 usable

Then the 4GB might be it. I'd take that out, that should fix it.

and what abt update issues man it just keeps popin and as soon i hit update it fails

It is saying that because it is missing files, probably because you are using a pirated version of Windows, updating will make you loose some features. Sorry for just responding

i get it so no way around it other than gettin a proper version of windows....well after removing the 4 gig stick its been running up alright without any freezes so u think installing new Windows 8.1 pro wont cause any issues, should i do it! thanks for suggestions man anyways

If I were you I'd stay with windows 7, but it is up to you. It comes down with what you prefer.(I'd actually install a distro of Linux) Windows 8 should have no problems, but no way of getting around it.

mm hmm...actually i installed 8.1 already...this time it had a different kinda freeze issue the sleep mode one...i fixed it just by turining the hard disk sleep time to never in power options and switching sleep mode to never as well! things look stable now

P.S M a Linux noob, will probably run it as a dual boot, gettin my head around it.

I'm a linux noob also, but I want to learn about it. I have my head around windows to an extent and hardware as if it is the back of my hand.

Do you have any Overclocks on anything?

no not really pretty sure

Mevermind then.

u think there wont be issues with image editing software and 3d packages on linux i use cinema 4d/3ds max and photoshop illustrator everyday...well m only messing with windows with the fond hope of knowing the goddamn problm ,being able to fix it and then moving ahead!

Windows authentication issues (pirate versions, etc...) are usually pretty obvious; MS makes it clear that you ought to get a legitimate copy. Unless you have a blank desktop or pop-up messages suggesting you activate Windows or get a legit copy, then your issue probably has nothing to do with Windows. If the issues started when you added new RAM, then that seems the likely culprit. Download memtest from memtest.org and burn the .iso to a USB drive. Boot from the USB and run the available tests on the new memory.

Something worth noting is that Windows rarely, if ever, has random/crazy errors when running pirated versions. It is in MS' interest to make sure all installations of Windows (even totally illegal ones) are able to run stably and with the latest security updates. They'll nag you and remove trivial functionality (being able to set a custom wallpaper), but by-and-large pirated copies of Windows work like legitimate ones.

  • Check event logs - see the Tek video.
  • Check HDD for errors using tool of choice - any SMART errors or bad sectors backup what you can and get a new drive.
  • failed Windows updates and pirated version.... what else would you expect. If you want a free OS use a linux distro - ones like Zorin have things like Wine (for windows gaming) pre-installed and can look just like Win7, XP, IOS or Gnome.

Either way the best way to rule out a software issue is to run a linux distro of choice off a usb, if shit breaks then its hardware, if all is sweet and no freezing then its software (the windows install, drivers etc).
Best of luck.
