Windows 7 validation

I will take windows off my laptop and take the key to validate my new rig i built. Will this be legal and will it work?

I have windows 7 home premium that came on an hp laptop in late october 2012.

short answer: it's not going to work

It most likely wont work. When windows is installed onto a laptop, they use a OEM version. It gives windows to one machine. Windows then meshes itself to your hardware and locks certain pieces of hardware so that if they dont serially match, you wont be able to validate. I have however validated the same code twice on my laptop and once in a virtual machine on that same laptop. The first time was a dual boot, the 2nd was a new ssd and same for the 3rd plus a virtual box.

It shouldn't work but you might be able to.

Does this apply if I am using an iso boot file or the restoration cds that came with it?
