A friend wanted me to wipe and reinstall Windows on his laptop so after doing that I'm trying to update with Windows Update but it's stuck on 0% no matter what. Even before reinstalling Windows it had this problem and I assumed it was because of malware which the laptop did have. I've tried using wifi and a NIC. Both work for browser traffic and everything else but Windows Update...
If you wiped windows 7 and doing a fresh install, then you have to start over with all the ungodly amount of updates.... and you actually have to update the windows update, to install all the updates. I believe there is a microsoft fixit program if thats malfunction.
I'll try those. I found another guy having the same problem and his updates were still downloading in the background even though it says 0%. It's also doing this for me. They're downloading slow af but apparently when it's done it will start installing them.
As somebody has already posted , the updater itself needs to update, and it can take a long time to figure this out. There used to be a way to manually download the update, you can find it with a bit of googling.
I would like to add that the hard drive may have issues which are slowing down the computer even more. After many sequential read write cycles performance drops. Bitrot will cause bad sectors to increase in number. Sometimes it can cause other, seemingly unrelated issues, such as windows update not working.
