Hi everyone! I am planning on building a gaming PC soon. I am currently on the fence as to whether or not I should get Windows 8.1 or stick with Windows 7.
If it makes a difference, here is my planned build:
If you are planning on overclocking your system, do yourself a favor and do not get Win 8.1. Windows 8.1 is a nightmare and a half for anyone trying to overclock using the base clock with Intel systems or the CPU/NB on AMD systems.
For casual use, like just gaming and maybe some school work ect. I would go 8.1. I have not had any problems with it. But if you plan to do some crazy overclocking or something. Go win 7. Also, windows 7 will work just fine out of the box, win 8.1 will probably require some tweaking.
Windows 8 has imho more benefits. It boots faster, has a better taskmanager and has in future also DirectX12 and the old startmenu. The only benefit to stick to Windows 7 is maybe the better driver support to older hardware.
I've activated and ran a windows 7 enterprise using microsoft's own activation servers.
And you can always use the original iso and run it for 30 days.
You could get a better powersupply like a corsair VS or a seasonic or even superflower or cheaper brands that have better efficiency and reviews. You don't need 600w but if you will be overclocking you might be pushing 500w.
If I did not build with an ssd... I think I would use 8.1 because of what I have read about how much faster it boots up. Plus everyone who actually uses 8.1 that I have talked to say that it is faster and helps a lot of games run better. I'm not sure if that's all true... but I run 8.1 and I don't think an operating system could be any simpler or faster. I tend to believe that people who say "don't use 8." have not even tried it... or gotten to know how to operate it correctly.
I got windows 8.1 and installed classic shell, and I'm never looking back. Windows 8.1 is much faster, better task manager, and with classic shell it's got the start button!
I've ran 8.1 but now im back to 7. If u run basic programs and willing to be pissed off the first month because of stupid full screen crap and some non supporting programs then go for it. Yes my comp booted faster and had a hair better performance. But i didnt like it yet. Ill wait for >8.1 and try that!
