Windows 7 on Thunderbold External Hard Drive

I found out I could run an OS on an external hard drive but its very slow because of USB, but if it was Thunderbold (20 ish times faster) could I run Windows 7 smoothly then?

Hope I'm making sense its very early where I live haha. Thanks in advance

Well, theoretically you should be able to. Thunderbolt is supposed to have a speed up to 10 Gb/s, where as SATA is only 6 Gb/s. If the hard drive inside the external enclosure was fast enough to keep up with the thunderbolt connection, it should be able to run even faster than a sata drive, unless I'm mistaken.
