ok so im building a pc for the first time and i wanted windows 7 as the os. How do i know which bit to get because there is 64 and 32 bit. How do i know which os to buy?
How much RAM are you using?
You could get Windows 8 and use ninite to install the start bar back onto it making it just a faster version of 7. I'd get 64 bit
yup 64 bit for 4GB and up, you could use 32 bit but you wont be able to use any more than like 3 GB of RAM
does anyone even know why anyone would even go with a 32bit system these days?
you want the 64 bit OS.. only way to get more then 4GB of memory
Maximum addressable memory for 32-bit architecture is 4 GB, maximum addressable memory for 64-bit is 16 Exabytes, although actual implementations tend to be lower. For example, 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate limit is 192 GB and the Home Premium is capped at 16 GB.
You can have less than 4 GB on a 64-bit OS, although the minimum for 64-bit Windows 7 calls for 2 GB and a 1 GB minimum for the 32-bit editions.
Generally I would always go for 64-bit now since almost any decent PC is going to have at least 2 GB RAM and I think 32-bit should be getting phased out anyway. Then maybe we can bring on 128-bit.
windows7 32 bit mem limit: 3.6 gigs
widows7 home premium 64 bit mem limit: 16gb
windows7 pro and ultimate 64 bit mem limit: 192gb
if u are just gaming windows7 home premium 64 bit will do, if u are doing editing or 3d work and will make use of over 16gb of ram get windows7 pro or ultimate 64 bit
