Windows 7 driver compatibility between similar laptop models

*Not sure if I'm in the right section of the forums. So mods, feel free to move.

I'm planning to get a secondary machine. I'm eyeing the Asus X550LB. The particular model I'm getting is being sold with no pre-installed OS. I would like to use Windows 7, but there is no official Windows 7 support from Asus on that particular model. There is however a similarly spec'ed machine, the Asus X550LA, which does have official Windows 7 support.

My question is, will I be able to use the Windows 7 drivers from the Asus X550LA in the Asus X550LB? Is it safe to assume that the drivers will work?

Any insight into the issue is highly appreciated.

Those two computers are exactly the same. The only difference is the video card and the OS that Asus has decided to support.

Windows is so abstracted that it generally doesn't matter if the OEM has official support for a hardware model or not. Microsoft provides the relevant drivers via Windows Update or they can be downloaded from the hardware manufacturer's website directly (like nVidia or Realtek).

But in your case, the X550LA drivers will work for the X550LB since it's the same hardware.

I was thinking of just taking the 'risk' and getting the machine. I have hunted down drivers for 'unsupported' operating systems many times for different machines. I just didn't want to do it if I didn't have to. But your statement takes a little stress off of my shoulders. Thank you.
