I have looked everywhere and have found really good answers but none of them relate to my situation. So I have a HP 2000 notebook(yes I know old!) But I’m building a new PC. On my HP 2000 I have a windows 7 professional. I just installed another stick of ram in it. Same kind same speed everything same. Anyways, my bios sees it and some of the systems sees it. But in performance or task manager, they don’t see it. I have msconfig/boot/maximum mem, unchecked too. I wondering what the problem is???
Hmm i was aware home premium had a limitation of 16gb, but nothing else.
Just curious, you are running a 64 bit version of win 7, correct? If not, you are limited to 4gb of RAM.
What does 'some of the systems sees it' mean?
If you right click the 'my computer' logo and click properties, windows should tell you how much RAM you have available. I'm going to wager a bet that it says something like: 'Installed memory (RAM): 8GB (4GB usuable)'
yes it is, I think i would be a idiot if i didnt know that haha. that has always been the answer in every forum. and this notebook only support 2 stick. also i am trying to utilize 8gb, its only showing 3.6 usable.
yes it does say that but again i have already troubleshooted that, but changing msconfig setting, which has also been the other answer in every forum about this. Also im trying to find bios updates right now, that was another possible solution. I was trying to see if the beautiful tek community had other suggestions.
This is dumb but backup and reinstall windows if you can't find a solution. That's my opinion.
I will give that try. Report back if anything changed
Share video memory?
How would I check to see.
run 'dxdiag' from the start menu.. just type it in the search/run bit.
Alright it says 6gb ram and in display is shows 2gb.
Is there a BIOS update available from HP for that model? Check and see in the update notes if the update would allow the use of 8GB memory.
@Cpt_Tripps Can you open a command shell (CMD) and type in Systeminfo and post the top section of results (don't worry about the hotfix section for now). Feel free to edit out any of the details if sensitive e.g. your name.
i'd be looking for a BIOS update about now to. I'd also be interested to see your system info, in case there are any clues.
