I'm an avid gamer and I was wondeering if I should upgrade to Win 10 during the free upgrade period for the games coming out onto windows 10 as well as the slightly improved resource management. I have backed up my C: so I can revert but still not 100% sure on if I should even bother.
If you need windows for upcoming gaming titles, then it makes sense to upgrade while it's free. Try it out, and as you said you can revert back to whatever version you're using.
For the average user Windows 10 is fine. If you are just using steam and maybe chat services there is no real reason to be terrified of the tin foil hat posts. Just being blunt is all, but some people are terrified of everything.
For the games, or any other Windows-only software that you intend to continue updating and using, or improved resource management, or for all the reasons of security, yes, you should upgrade.
Use the time it is free to decide if you wish to keep it. In your case, it seems unlikely the Windows 10 will break anything that you can not run on an older Windows version installed in a virtual machine.
