Windows 10: We couldn’t create a new partition or locate an existing one

So I decided to jump into the Windows 10 bandwagon, but not completely, by testing it out on my Acer Aspire One D270 netbook before completely installing it on my main system.

Upon reaching the drives that Windows will format and partition prior to installing, it give me this error when I select the drive and click next "We couldn’t create a new partition or locate an existing one"; there was a system log that I copied and read in my main system saying "The selected disk is not the computer's bootable drive".

So, I went into BIOS to change the boot order and place the HDD back in front of the USB FDD, went back to install, same problem.

I then decided to format the drive via diskpart while in the installer program, but argh, nothing.

I even tinkered with either getting into Legacy Boot or UEFI boot, but still shows the same. I even converted via diskpart to MBR for Legacy and GPT for UEFI, still no dice.

I am going nuts now, I even tried installing Win 8.1 but it showed the same error...

So did I just nerf my drive or something?

Ok, after 12 hours of doing the above over and over again... using CMD like it was the 80s all over again and using DOS; using complex syntax, etc... I decided to do something else...

I thought of xcopying the contents of the USB flashdrive and copying it over to the C: drive after I formatted it, restarted the netbook, removed the USB while I was at it, then installer that was now placed in the HDD booted, and when I had to choose a drive and partition, it went straight to installing... no more "We couldn’t create a new partition or locate an existing one"...

I can't believe I didn't think of doing that sooner... I am now in Windows 10 and just have to remove delete the the windows setup within the drive so it would always ask if I want to run setup or go straight to win 10...

Time to sleep. LOL
