So i have a massive problem with usb devices in windows 10. i have an asus X99-e WS mb and none of the usb devices work consistently. ive tried reinstalling drivers, getting new drivers, nothing works, its really frustrating. any advanced troubleshooting tips you guys have?
When you plug it in, are the devices detected in the device manager?
they used to be now nothing is... not even mouse and keyboard
When you say "used to be", what changed?
Was the system updated in any way?
I know Win10 can update itself without the user's consent.
so last night i was still having issues and i was reading that sometimes the asus usb charging stuff can break it so i went and tried removing it. it failed and i resorted to just removing some of its services and it completely broke everything. before that i tried reinstalling chipset drivers from intels website then when that had no effect i went to drp.su and tried their drivers... it worked but upon reboot things would kinda work.
There's some talk that you need to adjust the power settings to the USB Root Hub
Start up the device manager, and under the USB ports, right click on
them, and on the last tab from the little window, uncheck the field
"Allow the computer to turn off this device"
That, or change your power plan to "High Performance" instead of "Optimized" or "Power Saver"
i already tried that unfortunately.... nothing seemed to change. in all my years of fixing computers ive never had this many issues with usb before....
i wonder if it is unique to windows 10
Welp, you could try booting up a different OS to see if the USB ports work?
Check your settings in the registry at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\USB
DisableSelectiveSuspend ought to be at a value of "1".
Try a different OS or reinstall windows
im going to try installing usb 3.0 boost from the ai stuff. people online said that tit might help
that seems to have fixed the issue at least for the moment. i should add that i tried updating my iphone on this computer and it broke and the error was that usb was having an issue
You can run a linux distro from a USB without installing it, or DVD
unfourtiently i dont have that luxury right now. im working remotely
