Ok guys i have been through 1000's of pages of write ups with out finding the answers. I already have windows and Ubuntu gnome running in dual boot. I also have a windows 10 in virtual box on Ubuntu Gnome on a Second Physical drive. The issue im having is i can not access the other physical drives in my tower and i can not access my dvd drive and usb devices. I want to get rid of the dual boot and only run it as a virtual machine but i need to be able to access those things before i can. My daughter still needs stuff that is only available on windows and my Autocad programs require windows unfortunately. There is saved information that i need to keep on those drives and need to access in ubuntu also. So any help would be great.
If you are trying to access these drives from the VM, you might have to passthrough those devices depending on your configuration. If you have several drives and are getting ready to move to a Linux main/ Windows VM setup, you can access all the drives from a Linux install, you can even set them up as mount point to several places in your system
You WILL have to passthrough. The VM only has 'knowledge' of what you allow it to have.
To have access to USB drives you will need to download the necessary package. For Virtualbox users you need to do this anyway, I am unsure for VMware users.

Ok thank you. i'll have to read on how to set up a passthrough on virtualbox
Try toying around with virt-manager, might be easier to setup.
