This issue doesn't affect me as I'm definitely "all grown up", and Windows 10 would have to hold a seance to contact my mum and dad. However getting to the point, it would appear that good old "Uncle Bill" is keeping tabs on your online and PC activities and then telling your parents! I just thought you would like to know.
I just saw an article about this and wanted to check if it's already here.
I really hope all this data collection nonsense will backfire on MS (be it from users or regulatory bodies).
It's totally outrageous that a software company has promoted itself to policing what young people do! In fact what anybody does.
@Geoff you should know better :P
This article is just jumping on the Win10 privacy concern hysteria. Nothing new here, besides poor journalism.
Windows 10 sends a weekly “activity update” on childrens’ internet browsing and computer history to parents, by default and without telling anyone.
The feature appears to be turned on by default for family accounts — not notifying either children or their parents that they are being spied on
Microsoft have had an option via an online MS account to add children (family members or whoever) since XP SP3. It's not setup by default, and can only be setup with a verified account. In other words the parents set it up knowing full well what it does.
The whole article is pure sensationalism.
@thirdmortal you mean I can take off my tin foil hat now!
Of course being a Linux geek, I have "Suspicious of Microsoft" tattooed across my chest. I'll have to change that now to, "So Gullible". lol
That and i'm pretty sure most parents won't even know how to even set this up. Click-bait for the fail.
I think you have every reason to be suspicious of Microsoft.
They have made their intentions perfectly clear - by data mining windows user installs' as default on 7,8 and 10.
Not to mention the automatic download of windows 10 and nagware without user consent or using your bandwidth to send out updates to others, again without consent.
