do you guys, wendell logan pistol etc, think that windows 10 will be completely compatible with most programs and games with little to no issues.
It should be. It is built on the Windows 8 kernel which itself is based on 7 and ect. Should be minimum problems with software that works on 8.
lol Nope
It's going to take a while for that to happen, but most programs do work on with little to no issues with the newest Microsoft OS for example most older games did already work out the box on windows 8. some software programs have issues but some don't. unless you enjoy playing Ancient games from like 2007 and prior, that may be questionable. Like DOOM or HeXen or Wolfenstein 3D. games like that. some people can't even get those games to run at all on the newest OSes.
Microsoft has a good idea with that Tablet/Laptop Hybrid OS, i personally do believe that's going to be the future, but they are executing the idea very poorly (terrible scaling across all platforms and the store is ass) so hopefully they get it right with Windows 10, which as of late is very promising for the Desktop but is very worrisome for the tablet space, there is nothing but issues on the tablet side if you run windows 10 on a tablet, from my experience anyways.
But overall you won't really have to worry about your programs not running, they are going to work, unless you still use ancient programs, then it may be questionable. some people can get them to work, and some can't.
well what about games like crysis, thats from 2007. also hows the over all os, how is the structure different, what about search functions, file transfers, performance, and even task manager something i use every day.
Crysis works with no problems. honestly on the desktop space most things are pretty stable on windows 10, SURPRISINGLY stable it's almost scary. on the tablet space not so much, some apps don't launch, turn the tablet to its side to go from portrait to Landscape, and vice-versa is broken and doesn't work. and scaling is still pretty bad. and some swiping functions don't work. but it's getting better with each update, and some things are getting worse with each update. so it's a mixed bag, overall if you are planning to use it as your daily driver, i would against it, but most of the stuff truly works, you can get some work done on it. but i don't know how all apps work on it. most of the apps we use like Foobar, Steam, work perfectly. but some productivity apps dont work.
more then likely 80% of software from XP and older should work out of the box excluding drivers. 90% of software from vista&7 and 95% from windows 8. most of the problems will be with apps that aren't updated to work in a window. that's how this type of thing would usually play out.
I'd wait a few months after release to give M$ time to roll out patches and make it more stable.
I think all the majors program are or will. I upgraded to Windows 8 couple of months after released, and most of the times, i have had none compability issues, i actually prefer Windows 8 over 7, i like the search bar on the right side of the screen, the interface and the lock screen on the OS. Oh man i love that shit
Honestly if it wasn't the threat of "end of xp" support along with no "DX 11" on windows 7 crap I wouldn't have upgraded.
Windows 8 caused enough issues with older unupdated programs that relay on that .net framework 3.5 crap. I've once had to downgrade net framework just so it can work. programs like Window's GFWL doesn't work on 8 compared to 7 and really broke a few games, notably for me it was, "Dirt 3".
So many programs like older ramdisk says, "doesn't support this current OS". Almost makes me wanna dual boot windows 7 & 8 already. I feel like it's just a software version of "planned obsolescence". Pretty soon you're gonna need emulators/VM to run xp/vista software.
I only really use Windows at work. But windows 8 and its upgades have broke compatibility with almost all software and drivers I use.
HART, RS485, Fieldbus are all fucked. RS232 is a joke at this point to try to use it with Widows 8.
Pretty much all interface software crashes constantly or just won't install.
It is like Microsoft forgot people use PCs to do work.
I don't see a problem for normal day to day use like gaming or browsing the internet. But even Windows 8 has broken support for a _lot_ of hardware where drivers haven't been updated because its up to the manufacturer to update them and they don't carry continued support for older hardware. This will only get worse with windows 10.
Like I said Industrial grade stuff just doesn't work on Windows 8. I have tried.
Thats pretty much as I said, most stuff will work. But I am talking specifically about device hardware not general computer manufacturer. That said, I have had some hardware recently gain windows 8.1 support back after having poor to no support for 7/8. But iv'e had a lot of hardware just lack support in general (older laptops for example). Its nothing new with Windows, support is just generally dropped after a number of years as manufactures stop making devices and drop support as new versions of windows come out. I get the feeling this would be less of an issues if drivers were version agnostic and there was a common driver interface across all windows platforms (im not sure if there is or if this has improved?)
i think i might just set up a dual boot with windows 7 and windows 10.
I've run some ancient windows 95 games on my windows 7 pc so I think the programs you are using will work.
Just as 1 guys note on compatibility - I installed Windows 10 preview on a spare laptop to check it out. It is a HP dv7 17" with an i7 6gb ram and is about 3 1/2 years old. Windows 7 originally.
1 driver was missing after install, and all the ones it auto installed were newer and worked better than the ones from HP. Even that one missing driver was easily installed from HP's website. Absolutely floored me that it was such a perfect install. Almost "just worked" as well as a linux install.... almost.
