Windows 10 and CPU change

I built two systems on MSI z170 Carbon boards , one with an i3 and one with an i5. Both are running Win 10 Pro from a VLC key of 8.1 Pro. Both fully activated, in use 2 months.

I have an i7 I want to upgrade one to, and put the i5 6600 to replace the 6100 in the other.

Does CPU change destroy Activation ? If it is I'd basically be screwed. I know going from x99 board and cpu to z170 binned the activation and unlike previous Windows versions there was no options to phone.

Can anyone chime in ? I've read carefully conflicting info on other forums. Try googling anything computer related and Toms Hardware dominates the first 50 pages with complete bullshit.

Since there are conflicting reports you could wait for the Anniversary update. It's supposed to allow you to link your activation to an MS account which will allow you to activate Windows even when you change hardware. The obvious con here is the fact that you'll have to use an MS account.

Microsoft ties the free activation and OEM licences to the motherboard. (usually)

Ummm nice icon........ you make that yourself?
