I've had the Tech Preview since it came out, and recently upgraded to the full release, I don't have a product key for it, I have tried using my Windows 7 key, that hasn't been used yet, and I get error 0xC004E16, Error installing product key, so I can't change it.
You will have to upgrade from Win 7 to 10. They store your a hash of your hardware (motherboard ID or something presumably) when you activate Windows, and auto-activate on Win 10 if your hash is in the DB. Alternatively a Win 10 & 7 dual boot, then activation of Win 7 may work
Yep. Rumple has it. I had the same issue and called Microsoft. I had to go back and do a clean install of my Windows 7 and then put in the ISO disc to upgrade to Windows 10 and choose "Do Not Keep Any Files" to mimic a clean install of Windows 10. It was the only way to get my Windows 10 activated properly.
