Hey guys so currently have this PC here (PC) that got transplanted to a fractal define S case out of boredom one day. Currently I’m using a minisforum UM690 and it’s kinda out there in terms of stability for any pc gaming but makes great media center pc. So I’m looking to start real gaming build but with prices still out there, I know graphics card is still a ways away so I’ve come up with this:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900 - Ryzen 9 7000 Series 12-Core Socket AM5 65W AMD Radeon Graphics Processor - 100-100000590BOX - Newegg.com

MB: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI AM5 AMD B650 SATA 6Gb/s DDR5 Ryzen 7000 ATX Motherboard - Newegg.com

RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo Series 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000 (PC5 48000) Desktop Memory Model F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5N - Newegg.com

Obviously Cooler, PSU, and Case being reused and I figure I could do GPU with bigger PSU combo at some point.

Thoughts here gang?

EDIT: Plan on gaming, streaming and doing stuff with VMs hence the 12 core
EDIT 2: Changed RAM out for EXPO ready

Looks fine to me.

Thanks

When you don’t have any drive cages in the case, you could mount the CPU-fan to the front as intake and then have a cardboard (or 3D-print) duct guide that air through the CPU-cooler.

Else it may recirculate air from your eventual GPU

Oh I’ll have more fans when the GPU comes into play by then hopefully

Alternatively, configure the case for rear-intake and push the warm air out the front and right side.

If memory serves, the GPU has its own vents on the left.

Probably will do front intake and rear exhaust when all is said and done

Wait, so what you want to do is something like this?

PCPartPicker Part List

Type Item Price
CPU AMD Ryzen 9 7900 $429.00
CPU Cooler Noctua NH-U12S -
Motherboard MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI $219.99
Memory G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL30 $279.99
Storage Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 NVME $159.99
Case Fractal Design Define S -
Power Supply EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GS -
Total $1088.97

Sounds good, I recommend you pair this with either a 4070 Ti or 7800 XT. That is around $600-$800 worth of graphics. Do be aware 650W is a bit on the small-ish side though.

Oh I plan on upgrading the PSU with the GPU.
