Win7 EATING HDD GIGABYTS

I have been using xp ever since, but recently i bought new rig and stupid me got 8ggs of ram, so as i read, i need 64bit OS to utilize more than 4gb of ram.... so i went to 64bit win 7 even if i hate its interface a lot.

I formated 160gb old hdd from my laptop that i used, installed win7, drivers from a cd java adobe and shit... started torrenting about 40 gb of games (not even half of download is complete) and my fucking hdd says FULL! I mean, WTF?

My first try was on 80gb hdd, similar thing happened first day so i say, ok, wtf, ill use another copy of win7 and ill use my bigger hdd from laptop, and instead of 1 day it was full on 2nd day, what the F. is happening? GOD I HATE WIN 7, if it is telling me to buy new hdd i say no to microsoft! Go fuck ureself! On my old xp systems i never got to fill up all of my hdd space after years of use! How is this matematicly possible? Sure i started downloadng some newer 10gb games, but when i do the math it is around 40gb total, and i installed only one of them....

The recommended space for win 7 64bit is around 20gb, so the rest obviously has to be stuff you've downloaded and such. 160gb isn't that much nowadays, You should consider buying a new harddrive.

I think a fully updated version of win7 is between 20-40GBs? I'm not sure. You're welcome to go back to XP is thats whats going to serve you well enough.

Not to be a dick, but it sounds to me like a combination of poor file management on your part and old, small HDDs. If you're not willing to be consciously aware of whats on your system then either invest in a 1TB or enjoy the archaic.

If you do want to find out where all of your capcity is being taken up at, go to the root of your drive (usually C:\) and pull up the properties for each of the folders there. If something seems suspiciously large, investigate the folder in the same manner. Also, you might want to go into the Folder Otption in Control Panel and enable Hidden Files in the View tab.

Essentially the same space problem as 120 GB or less SSD owners:

Download Spacesniffer or an alternative to see where you could save some space.

Minimize the pagefile.

Disable hibernation and delete the file.

Reduce the system restores.

Win 7 64bit Ultimate, yes it is 17gb it can have it, i checked under c/windows that is fine with me i have plenty of room left...or have I!

But my hdd is 160gb and it is full! Of what i do not understand? How is win7 storing those files?

I tell you, i put around 30-40gb of games on torrent and they didn't even downloaded (30%) and my hdd says FULL? It blows my mind

...i have read topics about reducing windows paging files, hibernation etc but that is not really the issue i think, i't can take 40gb if it wants to, but than still where is rest of my 120gb space?

Try and explore the disk usage with spacesniffer or similar. Screenshot it (If you dare)

you, sir, need to leave PATA land, and join us in the SATA masterrace

I just got the strange urge to kick "skyliner" into a pit and while yelling so loud that spit fly

here's what you do. spend $40 on a pci raid card, and join the masterrace

All of my drives are connected using sata cables sir, dunno what is ure point.

Im now using spacesniffer, disabled pageing and hybernate and going more into it

Sometimes the torrent client reserves the space for the files so it can actually finish the download the without you filling up the storage. So if you have the 40Gb torrents, it probably reserved the 40Gb of storage from your HDD.

Disable page file (if you have enough ram), disable hybernation and remove useless temporary files.

Also some properly formatted text, grammar and not yelling would be appreciated.

well, what are you bitching for? you need a bigger hard drive, simple as that. a 1tb hard drive is like $60.
