So I recently setup a new WS for my email and VM usage.
Everything has worked pretty well but noticed some stuttering with both the main/host OS and the VM’s I was running.
I then suspended the VM’s and was testing just the HOST Windows 11 Pro and still had the same issues.
So I closed all the apps, waited a few minutes and opened the apps back up one at a time, mostly web browsers with multiple tabs open.
The stuttering was still there so I rebooted the OS and checked the settings.
One of the things I did was to replace the RAM that I had with higher capacity sticks, a matched pair of Gskill 48GB, DDR5, 5200 modules.
So when I checked the memory speed, it was still at the default of 4800 so I adjusted the settings to be 5200 without adjusting anything else, no voltage tweaks or anything on the timings side.
Saved and exited the BIOS and loaded the OS once again, now things are running without the stuttering on both the Host OS and the VM’s.
I wonder if just rebooting was needed and not the memory speed tweaks.
I wouldn’t think that a 400MHz tweak would make that much of a difference.
The kit is not an XMP nor EXPO rated kit so I will be checking on that down the road.
Has anybody seen this before ?
Also has anybody used an EXPO kit of RAM with a 7950X cpu at say 6000 ?
My older Gskill 64GB kit ran fine at EXPO 6000 with this same CPU so not sure if getting the faster RAM kit would be needed or not.
I mostly want the capacity vs. speed but hated that noticable stuttering.
