It seems like Nvidia is not only trying to gimp games to make their new cards look better than AMD, but to look a lot better than their older stuff. Perfect example: The GTX 960 did better than than the GTX 780 in Project Cars, but AMD's solution is to go into the drivers and turn down tessellation of which doesn't effect the game's noticeable fidelity because Gameworks tessellates stuff way beyond the point of diminishing returns and it also tessellates stuff that's under the map so all it does is just waste electricity.
You guys should do a small benchmarking session with the latest fallout 4 beta update, it seems like AMD is way ahead in performance now in that game for some reason.
Also benchmarking games with certain settings that hit perf but don't give any IQ in return is also a good idea, x16 tes vs x64 has major differences in performance with no IQ difference.
Yeah, you guys should do a video about this. AdoredTV's video was well done (lovely accent also), @Logan should watch it. Certainly makes one think how you feel about nvidia. Here's to hoping Polaris cards are great!
this video highlights everything that i have been saying nvidia has been doing for the past 3 years. and it give credibility to the fact that nvidia is doing anticompetitive things and making there own cards perform worse to make you upgrade sooner than what is really needed.
bottom line dont buy nvidia buy amd for gaming and soon it will also be buy amd for video production work as they make cuda code work on amd hardware nativly.
I'm normally against thread bumping, but this thread was posted around the time of the site crash and that kinda messed up the the natural growth. There's that and not to sound narcissistic, but I think this issue is very important and with the turn of events calls for a slight bending of my netiquette ethics.
i have some AMD 6850's i can run some benchmarks on once i get out of the hospital. i also can go back to my stock bios on my 290 and do some tests. then run the same tests with the card unlocked to a 290x.
let me know if you have a specific driver you want me to use,
I don't have a specific driver in mind, I'm thinking of more among the lines comparing tessellation settings and look at them with great detail and see if you can notice a difference at each settings and disabling the in-game tessellation settings and use a third party setting like in the driver or a dll injector like an enb.
i will be ok. 2x tess 4x tess and 8x tess are the only ones that i can see a difference with as it is. using in game settings and overriding the settings using the drivers or enb mods makes little to no difference in performance. as long as you do not max out the tessilation with 16x or 32x and above.
if you want to see how over tessilation makes games look worse boot up heaven benchmark and max out the tessilation settings and play with the sliders . with tessilation settings maxed out on sliders and at 32x it looks like shit and performance tanks.
best tessilation settings for heaven that i have found is 8x with the slider in the middle. it makes the edges evident but keeps it looking semi realistic. for the best example of how tessilation makes things look better or worse look at ropes they are the ultimate test.
was about to start a new topic then found this one. this seems like pure evil from Nvidia, too bad am bound to this company by my 3d screen. found this video on the subject
