Would it be a good idea to OC a i5-3570k with a Corsair H80? If so, will ASUS's autooverclocking feature in the UEFI BIOS? Thanks in advance.
yeah you should have no problem occing your i5, i have the same cooler and can get it up to 4.5ghz and it stays under 60 celcius.
and if you use the autovolting software on your moboI would only use it to hit something conservative like 4.2ghz it does a good job there. but the autovolting usually considers a worst case senerio, so when you get up to like 4.5ghz it tends to give the cpu way to much voltage so after 4.2 i would consider putting in the voltage manually.
What Nooboverclocker says sounds about right. You should be able to do some OC'ing with an H80, as long as you don't try to break any records. Something like 4.2 GHz sounds fine for you.
Thanks, guys! My range is around 4.2 anyways, so I can totally deal with that. Now, since it is beside a bed, under a desk, what config should I use for the fans? Push or Pull?
pulling air from outside of your case will always be better for cooling your cpu, since the air outside of your case tends to be a lower temp.
but also consider that pulling air from outside will result in more dust in your case/radiator(i'm pretty sure about this.)
You might want to turn autovoltage off, as it can cause some pretty crazy voltages to crop up. However, Asus boards do offer you a really nice amount of features and control over your components, so it shouldn't be a problem. The H80 will also support just about any overclock on the conservative side of 4.5 GHz. Obviously every processor is different and some handle the voltage requirements for stability differently, but the H80 should have little trouble keeping it within the safe zone.
