Yes that would work, should have enough power, but if this is meant to be a gaming PC then you're going to want to spend more on the GPU and less on the CPU. Swapping the i5 for an i3 and the GTX 650 for a HD 6870/7850 would give you a substantial performance boost in games, but you'd likely need to boost up the wattage of the PSU to 500W for that. You could probably get away with less but you're playing a bit risky then.
If on the other hand you only plan to play games casually and have other things in mind for the CPU, then you should be able to run most games on mid/high and get a good frame rate, but don't expect to max out the settings on any modern games.
I got the I5 so I could do a little bit more video editting for school also im planing on probibly upgrading the Gpu this comming up summer so ill probibly get a 500W PSU
o.O <------ me not understanding why people are still recommending the 6870 alongside other graphics cards that are worlds better.
the build you had was $660
- CPU/Mobo
- GPU/RAM
- Case/PSU
- HDD
an overclockable CPU (good resale value for when you get a 3770 in the future) and a Asus Mobo (high quality, Overclocks nice) Ram that they aren't trying to GIVE away, the case provides a bit better air flow provided you put the fans in it
Hmm, to be fair, I did word that slightly funny, but I was trying to give range, should probably have said HD 6870 - 7850, since you can pick up an HD 6870 for close to what he is paying for the GTX 650.
You can get an HD 6870 for $135 at NCIX (Canada) after rebate right now. I find good cards being phased out are always worth a mention.
I would agree and say less CPU and more GPU. At the price point you`re looking at I`d probably go AMD, for $60-80 less on a CPU you could grab something like a FX-4170 and for the GPU you could get a Radeon 7850 or a 7870 if you can find a good price.
