Will it Crossfire? HD 7970 and RX 480

i would like to buy a RX 480 and add it to my PC, will i run into issues? anyone crossfire with different cards before? thoughts?

No, it wouldn't It's a GCN 4.0 (RX 480) vs GCN 1 (HD 7970). There maybe a possibility of it through DX12 or Vulkan which will treat two cards as 1 card, but then the HD 7970 heavily bottleneck the Rx 480. But that's still in the pipeline and for now it's still standard xfire/sli. A more realistic xfire would be between RX 470 and RX 480.

In all reality if you want to run two cards with the least amount of problems, just get two identical cards.

If I were you I'd waiting a few more months for when the larger chips are released and or the prices drop somewhat.

7970 to RX 480 is a significant jump, but probably not necessary.
