I have a amd fx-8120 at 3.1ghz , (i dont want to overclock it) and a gigabyte 970a-d3 motherboard with 8gb ram.My current gpu is a 660 sc and i was hoping to upgrade to a 770 or 7970 , if i do is my cpu able to handle those cards? (i play games like heavily modded skyrim, bf3 , csgo ect.) thanks for any comment!
Ya it should have no problem handling those cards aslong as you power supply is up to the job. I would recommend you overclock but at stock it will be fine.
ehhhhh... I'm honestly not sure. the 970 chipset boards are terrible overclockers anyways (unless you're like phantom, and have a $500 cooling setup, and can put 1.6v into an 8150 without issue). you can probably bump it up to 3.5 ghz, with maybe a slight voltage increase. if you have an aftermarket cooler like the hyper 212, that is.
IF you do have a cooler such as that,
boot into the bios
up your core voltage by .05,
turn off amd cool'n quiet, and turbo boost,
and set the mutiplier to 18.
if it doesn't go that high, post back, and i'll give you instructions on the other method. if it does, reboot to windows, and run Aida 64 overnight to stress test.
i have a Corsair 600w 80+ bronze , is that good enough?
yeah. that should be enough wattage. i'm running a corsair 750w, but I plan on adding a second card at some point.
That psu is more then enough realy, the only big problem you have is your motherboard realy, you mobo is not great for overclocking.. only 4+1 powerphase and no heatsinks on the vrm´s so, i would recommend to pickup a better mobo for overclocking that thing, think about a Asus Sabertooth 990Fx R2.0, if that is to expensive Asus M5A99Fx pro R2.0
grtz Angel ☺
it should be able to do a .4ghz overclock. I wouldn't go any further though.
i do not think you will get bottle necked, Logan tested the 8350 with dual 7970 in Crossfire and the 8350 had no problems. with the 8350 being about 20% faster than the 8150 you should have no problems with with a single 7970.
PS. i would go with a 7970 larger Frame buffer and 3 free games.
i meant for the graphics cards. i honestly have no idea how to overclock or do anything in that nature but thanks for the feedback haha!
