I was wondering if an AMD GPU (AMD Radeon HD 7870) will work fine with an Intel based CPU (Intel i3 3220) and or motherboard. Will there be any performance problems, bottlenecks etc.
Another question is whether I should get the Intel i3, or the FX 4300, I was considering the 4300 at first, but then I heard the i3's performance was just as good, maybe better in some cases.. And also, I could upgrade to the i5 in the near future, as right now, I'm only planning to build a budget gaming PC..
I would like to hear everyones opinions and what I should choose..
What are the prices you are paying for both? I remenber you had a thread before, personally i would shoot for the FX4300 just again for the ability to OC if i so which to do so, performance of the i3 vs FX4300 in gaming is about equal at stock clocks. A FX4300/7870 will do some serious damage in gaming, but then again so would the i3/7870, great choice on the card by the way!
Haha, I remember you helped me before with another thread, but yea, I have been strongly considering the 4300 this whole time, but then it came to me that the i3 was also just as good, plus it gives me the possbility to upgrade to an i5, which I know is an absolute beast for gaming, then goes the usual speculation that Intel is better than AMD..
And thanks, not going to be changing the GPU, seems like I've already made the right choice on that, but its only my CPU that I need help with deciding..
I really don't know, because like you said, they are pretty much both the same, but the i3 would give me the oppurtunity to upgrade to the i5. And also, if I do get an Intel i3, and an Intel based motherboard, will the HD 7870 work fine, with no performance bottlenecks or such?
Yes the 7870 will work fine, no bottlenecks or performance loss from it. Since you keep mentioning the i5 i think you made the choice already, the i3 it is!
Thats good to know, but you understand why I keep mentioning the i5, because I've heard alot that its the best choice when it comes to gaming.. If I do get the 4300, what upgrades are offered, preferably something comparable to the i5?
Something comparable to the i5 in performance at stock clocks, the FX8320/FX8350 are pretty solid candidates. The 8320 should be a good bit cheaper then the i5 3570k, and the 8350 should be close in price to the 3570k. You can not go wrong with either platform, AMD over here is far cheaper then intel so it would be a no brainer if i had a tight budget.
The i3 build you have to get a decent motherboard for future OC support on the 3570k, that will end up costing probably more then the AMD based system.
I'm planning to keep it below $700, and right now in total with the Intel i3 3220 and the motherboard above, it totals about $664, would you like me to type up my whole build for you to see?
