Trying to think of a good stop gap GPU on my dad's rig since I had to come stay at his house while I go to school. He's got an old i7 2600k with a P8z68-V pro mobo (which wasn't even in XPM when I checked it today lol). He's also got a TX750w psu, a GTX 570, and some bad assed CPU cooler in a CM Sniper case.
Looking to play games on Ultra in 1080p 60hz at 60FPS or more if possible. (maybe even nightmare mode ultra)
Also playing Wargame Red Dragon, and BF4. (basically all my games I played at home. And he hasnt played the new DOOM yet so I want to wow him.
TL;DR
My dad's rig needs a GPU to play on 1080p Ultra on a z68 mobo.
No PCIE Gen 2.0 at 16x is not even close to bottlenecking current gpu's. A Gtx 1080 will run as well on a gen 2.0 16x as it will on a gen 3.0 16x. A 2600k, especially one that is overclocked, will have no problems keeping up with any single gpu you throw at it.

Yeah, I'd rather get him a non reference one though. Idk how long i'm going to be down for, just taking a CDL course.
You might wanna check compatibility though. Had an issue with my 2600k when I went to a 380.
I'm pretty sure it was my mobo seeing as I read about the 380 working on 2.0 despite being 3.0. But the intel mobo didn't have any bios updates for it. Might wanna check it out, just a thought.
My dad didn't update the bios, but I just now flashed to the 3603. In theory it should work. If not I can just send it back I guess. Would make me sad though.
