I need an aftermarket bar with more range my TV is 14 ft from my couch and the oem bar does not recognize my wiimotes. Any suggestions I use this to play NEOGEO and its frustrating to have to get up all the time due to the fact I just had back surgery.
Have you tried the candle method? Logan mentioned it in his wii emulation video. Since the wii remote is doing all of the work, and the sensor bar is actually just two infrared's; candles should work fine. Simply light two candles and place them apart from each other where you want to be pointing.
Or you can set the oem sensor bar on a table or stand that's closer to you and that will work fine, just remember to point at the bar and not your T.V.
If this doesn't suit you there are also third party "wireless" sensor bars that you can place closer to where you will be sitting/playing.
...You took the candle method as for real?
If you place your sensor bar closer to you, like on a table in front of you and just get used to it being there or something that should be fine, I don't know any 3rd Party models that work well and all that but i'm sure any one will do and if they're cheap enough trial and error doesn't hurt.
Candles do work. :I http://www.ign.com/articles/2006/11/29/making-sense-of-the-sensor-bar ctrl-f it
I don't trust IGN personally, but if that's true, good for Nintendo on having it be that simple.
It was just the first article i found. I'm not very good at research, hah.
I have a custom mounted TV and all the wiring is in the wall I'd prefer a 3rd party solution I can snake than wires running around the room. Also when people are actually standing the optimimal place for the bar would be at the tv. thank you so much for all the responses so far!
When i had my wii, i had a "wireless" sensor bar i bought off of Amazon, but it was terrible and needed new batteries every few days. Sorry, i can't recommend one.
I am having the same issue no one has used one that worth buying. I think some velco will do the trick rip it off when im alone and put it on the coffee table.
You could get some powerful IR lights and mount them atop the TV.
^Agreed.
I actually did this. I found after market ones to be far too week. Bought some IR LEDs and wired them up to an old USB cable I had laying around. Worked great. Checking the brightness of the IR's with your cell camera works good too. The after market ones are barely visible from my experience.
Or tape the buttons down on two old tv remotes....
Any light source stronger then the light emitted from your TV would work and placing your TV in front of a window can potentially be bad for a good signal.
I used candles for my first setup, and it works just fine. Later I bought a wireless sensor bar just so I would not burn down my house by accident, this you could place anywhere e.g. on a table closer to you.
The experience of playing Zelda with candles late at night is pretty sweet thou...
i can confirm this. i did it back in like 2006 on my cousins birthday. all the bar does is emit an infrared signal at each end for triangulating the wii-mote. a flat emits infrared light. it gives the wii-mote a bearing to work from.
