Hullo, I was wondering what's better: yo get a Wi-Fi range extender or a new router? I ask this because Wi-Fi signal in my house (two story) gets really, and I mean REALLY, weak as soon as I leave my room in the second floor (place where the router is placed), so, yeah, I want to have a strong signal in all of my house. I you could please post some hardware suggestions for my problem I would be really thankful. Regards :)
Range extenders are a waste of $. You place them somewhere between where you are and where the router is, and what ever the signal strength is that the extender sees is what it will put out. So if its getting a weak signal it will put out a weak signal. Also they aren't that good if your a gamer, it adds a bit of lag into the system. Get a new router. a N600 router atleast. Anything higher than that is useless unless you have a gigabit connection coming into your house.
Any "cheap" suggestions you may have?? (around 60$-80$?)
Asus RT-N12 with DD-WRT would be a good cheap option, i has 5dB antennas too so youll get some good range out of it.
its also only around 40$
