Why windows does 6 MB/Sec but linux does 35MB/sec

I'm about to absolutely blast everything but I was wondering why this happens. My XP laptop should do 16 MB and it does like 3. So, question stands: why does this happen?

Before posting something like this, you should consider telling, what exactly you're talking about: harddrive, SSD, ethernet, Wi-Fi ?

Maybe also post your hardware configuration. That would be helpful.

Also, why are you using Win XP ?

Ah, I meant USB. Very late and I should have just posted after I woke up in the morning.

Also I have XP on machines that cannot otherwise do anything newer, such as my HP NW8000 or my netbook (A pentium M and an Atom N270). Theres no reason to not use it and its the only version of windows I actually like.

most likely because you have quick removal enabled for your device. you need to set better performance in disk manager to get full speed.

you may also want to look for updated drivers or fixes using hardware id's from device manager.

Because its Windows XP...? It might not detect it properly and is treating it as USB 1.

On a side note is this connected to the internet?

Woah! Don't talk shit on Windows XP.

but seriously though it has full USB 2 support

Let me clarify here because it was 5 AM, ANY WINDOWS. Not just XP.

Its happening on any hardware with various windows versions? Might be an issue with the usb have you tried another one?

Please dont use Windows XP connected to a network.

I think part of it was on a post here maybe? Something about chipsets? I'll follow that string.

Also who the hell would want a pentium M in a bot net. I'm not stupid I don't go to dodgy sites.

I'm only meaning that connecting an XP computer to a network (especially one with an internet connection) puts the network and XP machine at risk, theres no security updates for it anymore, its pretty much a certainty it will be cracked at some point if left on a network.
