I actually ran across an interesting article on toms today, rather than the general fluff they post. Basically some bullet points about why samsung should buy amd. I though it was an interesting read. I think samsung could help amd immensely but considering all amd really does is make x86 chips, I'm not sure samsung would really see a benefit with the exception of their graphics division.
It would be good to see AMD get a large budget boost for R&D. Increase competition in the CPU and GPU market a bit, even if it was the mobile market.
An AMD SoC could have a lot of potential if it's anything like Nvidia's Tegra line. They'd have to put a lot of effort into increasing efficiency to be able to properly implement their solutions though.
There were two unbelievably wrong points in that article and one of them referenced another article of theirs that was over a year old.
They were talking about how Samsung could make their own custom processor and "might" be making one. That is over a year ago, they already made it.
And saying how Samsung could follow Apples strategy making their own CPU like in the UPCOMING iPhone 5S. Eh? Samsung made the custom CPU for the iPhones, for quite a while.
Upcoming iPhone 5S? Upcoming. This is as baffling as it is an obvious show that Toms Hardware have no idea whats happening anymore. .
After Samsung's latest patent trolling I try to stay away from anything Samsung related (and after owning a Samsung phone). AMD has always been pretty open, i'm afraid that would change very fast if Samsung bought them out. That said, if the two options were bankruptcy or selling I'd vote for selling for the sole reason of competition with Intel and Nvidia.
