...OK to be perfectly honest, I had not dared look into the youtube comments since the whole AMD vs Intel can of worms thing a while back, and i sort of regret it too. I mean, part of me feels like someone should interject in there but I doubt there is anything to be done at this level of, uh, misinformation.
On one side, some poor guy with a legitimate question about his future rig, which is perfectly understandable. On the other, a boatload of absolutely inane statements.
Those of us who are in the know have been in that position at least once, and now we're happy to help.
My point is, wouldn't a 10 second segment in the beginning of the videos prompting people with questions to go lurk the forums whilst leaving comments disabled be orders of magnitude better than letting this shit go on?
Personally I'd agree, youtube comments in general can be pretty upsetting, that is especially true for tech channels. However, youtube comments are also important for the channel, they make you rise in the search rankings and give you the potential to attract more attention/gain more subscribers. I don't know how important that is at this point for razetheworld, but it is always something to keep in mind. Youtube is a business for many people and a way to earn their income (or at least a few additional bucks). I think Logan is doing a good job at steering people towards the forums for any kind of tech-related questions, and if you'd rather listen to two random people on youtube then that's your choice IMO.
It's kind of stupid to censor the youtube comments because people are dicks.
People are dicks on every youtube video. When I see a video with comments disabled, it makes me think that the video is either shady, or that the uploader is a whiny little bitch.
So yeah. keeping the comments open, while annoying, is a good thing.
And if people are dumb enough to post in the comments about something, when Logan specifically says to only ask questions on the forum, then they diserve whatever they get in that cesspool of youtube comments.
the comments don't bother me at all since I don't even watch any Tek vids on youtube itself, just the video embedded here on the site. Plus I think disabling the comments would just lead to those dumbasses creating accounts here on the forum just to say stupid shit and spread misinformation. As long as they have a home on youtube, 95% of them wont bother us here.
Just ignore it. Anyone who asks legitimate questions (other than "hey, what song is that?") in the Youtube comments is powerful stupid. Everyone knows the Youtube comments section is where logic goes to die, so anyone willing to base purchasing decisions on them, honestly, deserves their fate...
Didn't Total Biscuit disable the Youtube comments on all his videos a while ago? I think it's not really about censorship and I don't think it looks shady, you just don't have the right tools to properly moderate a big youtube channels comment section. I can understand the people who do it, especially since your content will somehow be associated with those people under your video. It's also your own choice, since you will also harm yourself in doing so (search rankings, etc.)
Why bother disabling the comments on the youtube vids? Everyone knows that the actual discussions happen on the forums. There is nothing compelling you to scroll down and look at the comments. Nobody is losing out by having the comments be there, and the more comments the video gets the more money the video generates.
I don't see how it's censoring, especially since Logan has already stated several times that they don't bother to read them as it is as they would rather you come here instead.
The way I have my ad and script blocking set up Youtube comments never load to begin with and haven't since the Youtube redesign.
