So I have my main gaming system that I have at my desk. Why do a lot of people build a dedicated media PC, like am I missing some obvious pros or what? Im gonna have some spare PC parts and money so would it be worthwhile for me to build a media PC?
I feel more like its for more so you can have a pc hooked up to your TV so you can watch Netflix, Hulu and YouTube on. I think its become more popular because people don't care for standard TV threw Comcast or time warner, and instead they'd rather get it threw Netflix. So having a media pc hooked up to a big flat screen or in my case a projector, works really well to get your Netflix and YouTube videos. Its more relaxing to be able to sit back on and relax instead of sitting at my desk (although I am biased with my plastic card table desk) and watch movies that way.
It does sound appealing, I may just spend £350 ish, plus I have a GTX 650 which I have up for sale but I may keep, and hook it up to my big TV, anything specific I should look out for? APU/CPU HTPC case or just an mITX case? Any other things I should look out for?
Really for a media pc, I'd keep the 650 as it will be more than enough for anything Netflix can throw at it. A lot of people like getting a case that looks similar to a dvr like this: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/silverstone-case-ml04b Its clean and looks right in a living room. Throwing an Apu or a Celeron in there and just using on board graphics would works great also.
How about pairing it with an a10 5600k or something?
