Why I hate windows

that's not why people moan about it. it's the equivalent of having an FBI van sit where you can see them, and tap your phones. you may not talk about anything illegal, but being monitored just cause isn't right.

That argument should be reversed. It should be "I have nothing to show"

No, I phrased it the way I meant it. That's the thing though. If someone has a problem with it, that's their problem. I'm not saying it's wrong to complain if you'll grow a pair to do something about it. Personally I don't really care. That's the point I was making. That I didn't leave Windows for privacy reasons because in my personal opinion it's ridiculous. But I won't criticize people for complaining as long as they do something. If all you do is complain, you're wasting time and look quite stupid doing it. (By that I mean switching to Linux or securing your network, or various means)

I just think about my privacy in this way: "Am I ok with a human potentially having access and knowing what porn I view"

Because I sure don't

On that note, most people don't care who sees what porn they use. As long as it means their safe, what's the harm with losing a little privacy?

And that's fine. That's your preference and you're entitled to it. My preference is different which is just fine for me.

Lol IMO I'm just fine with it, and you're right, it's a false sense of security. I don't believe it makes anything more secure, I just don't waste my time going out of the way for something I personally don't need to do. The needs of others vary.

A lot, I mean if I want to cherry pick an example.

The German Census and The Nazi party. The details of that census (religion and address) were used to put Jews in concentration camps.

Small things can have big consequences

I'm sooooo close to dumping Windows.
If I wasn't on 7 I'd have gone nuts by now.

False sense of security huh?

Based on what? Are terrorists attacking me and my family through my computer? No.

Is there a foreign power trying to harm me? If so, isn't said protections afforded by say Microsoft and their security suite keeping those bad people away from me?

In this day and age, EVERYTHING is spying. I would rather pick the devil I know, and be safe, than go it alone, and risk the horrors of the world alone.

To play devils advocate that is.

I mean an effective terrorist attack could be causing thousands of phone batteries to combust in the pockets of their owners.

Cyber-terrorism doesn't exist yet... but you just wait.

Why didn't you actually use this so it would have updated instead when you weren't going to be using the computer? Or even use the "Update and restart," button since that'll also complete the portion of the update that occurs after a restart.

I didn't want the anniversary update

If you didn't want it updating past the version it was on, why didn't you follow a guide like this:

To disable updates?

because I had misplaced trust in assuming that opting out was enough

I can't figure out what is crazier windows updates or blocking all windows updates.

Blocking security updates is a stupid idea unless you REALLY know what you're doing

Or you could just update your operating system ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah but perhaps there are compatibility issues, or just plain privacy concerns.
