I was watching the best mice of 2015 video on HardwareCanucks and Logan had a section in the video and said he didn't like braided cables and I wondered why?
I personally really like the feel of them and the much looser type used one used on the Mionix Castor (the mouse Logan's talking about at the time) doesn't hinder performance by being too stiff or getting caught behind the desk, I can speak from first hand experience because I own one and use it as my daily driver, so it got me wondering!
Because he hasn't bought a mouse bungee yet, although this is what I use on the cheap and it's fine, minus the magnifying glass, it also holds my mic, but I have a tiny mic
I don't use a mouse bungee either though so I don't see what problem could be caused by not using one. Fair enough that Logan doesn't like them, each to their own and all but I'm just curious to his reasoning.
Get what you like... who gives a shit what @Logan thinks on a matter of his own opinion? I would personally rather have a braided cable on my mouse... so I have a mouse with a braided cable... ----> minds just blew
There is no reason... he prefers a thing...
You prefer another thing...
The human conscience isn't quite hive-minded yet... don't take a step in the wrong direction...
No need to be a dick, man. I'm just asking why he prefers it? Like I have reasons for preferring braided. I wondered if @Logan had his reasons for preferring just a normal rubber cable and if so, what they might be.
I'm asking to broaden my perspective on the matter. Maybe there's a fatal flaw to braided or a huge benefit to rubber that I've never noticed before? I see no problem in asking so don't come at me with this hive mind shenanigans for asking an innocent question. If anything, it's quite the opposite because I'm not rushing out to buy a new mouse without a braided cable "because Logan said so".
Fair enough man, I apologise and maybe so. I imagine rubber would be more durable? I don't know though. I always preferred the look and feel of braided cables, it just has a more premium vibe to it.
sometimes rubber will be more durable sometimes braided. Braided can sometimes fray, like rubbing against the edge of the desk. Both can kink from poor packaging. Rubber cables can usually unkink with a hair dryer, i'm not sure if thats feasible with braided.
WOw that's two people now I know who doesn't like braided cable. As for me coming from cheap mouses like Logitech & Microsoft ones, having braided means your mouse wire won't get cut or have endless loops and lame/limp type feel when you leave you mouse a certain way for a long time and the wire doesn't adjust cuz it's gotten hard. Sure it get stuck on corners and table ends but if you pull them out farther it's not so bad.
I mean hey if they are really OCD about it they should go back to that retractable mouse cable like those 2000s mouses.
Well they could be a more metal plastic based braid, or a nylon one, or even a cloth one. It depends. If you get a high quality braided cable, they are much better and more durable. However, if you get a cheap braided cable, they are nowhere near the standard plastic cable in terms of quality, because of things like dust / water / it being susceptible to vacuum cleaners, or even cables ripping if anything sharp gets to them.
First braided wares out easily, ever seen a braided cable that self destructed? not pretty it adds friction, so moving a mouse around just got a bit more annoying. it attracts dirt and dust more
and lastly it doesn't really bring anything to the table.
I don't mind it personally but i can see why he dislikes it
I'm personally not a fan of braided cables since they don't seem as flexible as regular cables(Gigabyte Mouse, I'm looking at you), but I've had the braiding fail on a few of my things and when it does they just look terrible(annoying to fix too). For example, my headphones: Luckily I hate the Y style wires anyways, so I'll eventually fix it with a detachable cable that isn't a Y.
I loathe braided mouse cables, my three year old Corsair M65 still has kinks in the cord. Having said that, I don't really notice any increased drag in day to day use, nor any real issues with it's "cleanliness".
I do like braided headphone cables though. VMODA cables are damn nice, and hey can take abuse pretty good.
As mentioned above, I've found they tend to fray over time. If you had it attached to something so it didn't rub against the desk I guess that would fix that.
