I had kubunto on my lenovo laptop for months no issues went to update it as i habent used my laptop in a few months and bam video drivers crash cant boot in with safe mode or any other option. So i format reinstall ubunto every thing works again than bam same error after running the software updater. Oh and now i have no wifi since the reinstall but i have blutooth
P.s. im using kubunto drivers only no 3rd party drivers
So.i said ithis was an oportunity to try and go back to fedora so i formated and installed fedora and every thing seemed ok then ran the software updater that prompted me there was updates pending and bam i still have video but now im seing flickering in the back loght. So i tried the hack i found to get intel drivers on and that did nothing.oh and still no wifi. So at this point i think my laptop is dying so i boot back into windows 8.1(yes im dual booting) and every thing works again with no flickering.
So ffs what am i doing wrong. installs go great no issues ever could go months with out issues but the second i update it always break linux on me.
Don't take it personal, much like linus, linux hates on everyone (a little or alot). But it is beats arguing with MS, that bitch will tell all your secrets to the other mean girls at school.
Well if you don't update it at all, yeah, shit breaks. Libs are missing, nothing lines up, ETC.
Fedora is as much a pain in the ass as ubuntu is. Both are twitchy little cucks that aren't quite sure what the hell they're supposed to do. I would recommend doing Manjaro (specifically KDEplasma) and building it to your liking. Just keep it up to date weekly and you're prolly good :D
FEDORA HATES YOU BECAUSE YOU DESERVE TO BE HATED ON WHY U TRYN TO RUN LINUX N E WAZ IN A WINDOZ WURLD? Seriously though desktop linux is a lost cause. I'm here to help friend :P Sudo blobbity /var/log/whythefuckamIwastingmytimeonthishit?
It could be a certain Xorg update that could have created the issue. You can try linux mint see if this happens again. You can use the update manager and update just the known stable updates, see if this works and then install the non-stable securoty ones. If it happens you can find the update that created it from the log and what kind of update it is and block it. It could be something very specific to the laptop.
Also a good idea is to use a restore program like timeshift. So if you have any issues you can always restore your system.
Linux doesn't hate you, computer hardware manufacturers hate sharing information so developers can help them make their hardware work on Linux
Ths has been a thing with recent Ubuntu flavours (version 16.04) but should have been resolved - tried version 16.04.1? If still no wifi on new version, may be worth trying few other distros on live usb to find something with working wifi
On the update issues, I really appreciate the support from the Manjaro forum. When they roll out a new batch of updates, they post an announcement on the forum, The post includes a poll for folks to indicate if they had any issues. Newbies can hold back on updating for a week or two to see if there are any problems, and to find out how to fix it
I would give manjaro a try, its hardware detection is pretty good and installs drivers automatically if it has them.
it is also a os that gets updates sooner than ubuntu/mint do, but generally they are a bit behind arch (which is what manjaro is based on) as they do some testing before rolling them out.
on my laptop the touchscreen, keyboard lighting, wifi, screen brightness, all worked without me doing anything. only thing i had to do was remove the open source video drivers and install the nvidia ones which was as easy as opening the gui menu and doing a few right clicks.
k so i wiped every thing again reformatted the usb stick with latest Ubuntu and rebut this time i plugged my Ethernet in and did the upgrade during install options and every thing but wifi. but still its iooking which is better than before after curent updates. so now im trying to install the kde desktop which hangs on black screen after login
steps i did were
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
but got 2 errors so i tried installing kde again in unity got this error

You candnf update -x X11* and you should be fine... I have never used the software installer on Fedora. If something breaks, dnf downgrade <pacakage> you should be fine.
