Unfortunately didn't finish Gundam Wing yet... put it on hold to watch Hyouka. But I could see that they did a very good job for something of it's time. Gundam seed was more modern but I have absolutely no idea why they made it fail on so many levels v_v;

I got into anime before American television got so bad(because it loaded faster than tv shows)..Now it is one of my few refuges, from the reality shows and the CSI's and all the predictable programming..I also use to watch anime as a child with voltron and other cartoons..If you like sports there is also some sports anime..
I am not trying to make you a convert, just trying to give you some more options for entertainment..

I really like heroes that gaunt their intelligence and personality. Like Lelouch from code geass, L from Death Note, Ciel from Black Butler. Choosing a favorite is extremely difficult because each character is so good in their own way.
Any idea where to get this stuff legit? I don't like pirating and avoid it where I can.(read 99.999% of the time)

I would said Hei from Darker than Black because of how much he suffers but still does what he thinks is right apart from the alcohol part lol and because of the straight up coldness of his. Another good but no really a hero is Zwei from Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom and also Setsuna F. Seiei from Gundam 00.

Anime taps in to a certain pool of creativity that writers of live action movies and TV shows can't seem to find. I'll be the first to say that there's a lot of shitty anime out there. Hell, anime is probably the biggest culprit of overused story concepts with slight differences to make them "unique," completely overused character personalities, and cheap, cliche plot devices.
But more than anything, it's probably the biggest culprit of portraying females as sexual objects. There's a whole genre of anime dedicated solely to showing off sexy female characters and providing fan service to viewers with ridiculous scenes involving partial nudity, plenty of sexual innuendo, or scenes that borderline softcore porn. 99.9% of these shows have a lineup of female characters that have huge, plump breasts and perfect bodies. Although, there are some of these shows that come out once in a blue moon and are actually pretty damn hilarious (Golden Boy is the only one I can think of right now. That show is comedic gold).
But, all of that aside, there are still plenty of fantastic shows out there with really cool concepts, memorable characters, and intriguing plots. You just gotta sift through all the bull shit.
No, but I do, because Berserk is my favorite manga.
Guts is truly the most bad ass character ever. None of the characters from shows like Naruto or Bleach or whatever come even close to him.
I mean, shit, he was found as a newborn baby on the ground underneath his hanged mother's body with the umbilical cord still attached; lying in a pile of afterbirth and other filth. He's constantly walked on the boundaries of life and death literally his whole life, and has lost almost everything dear to him due to horrific events. But he doesn't give up. He puts his very life on the line for the sake of slaughtering his enemies.
Oh, and he's a master swordsman wielding quite possibly the most ridiculously oversized and crude sword ever.
And most of all, he isn't a cliche, static character. He actually evolves throughout the story and has genuine emotions.
Since I almost never watch anime, I would have to say spike from cowboy bebop.
