What's the fastest, minimalistic, safest ect...
I only use torrents for getting GNU/Linux distros and some other FOSS software of verifiable source, so I'm not that concerned with Bluetack Level 1 lists or the likes, and I don't think the client itself makes that much of a difference, as long as the settings are right, being that the priorities are set right, and most important setting of all, that the client is set to require or force encryption, so that the data you download is not tampered with in transitu. If you would not force encryption, someone could alter the data you download between the data servers and your client to include malware for instance.
I just use Transmission on GNU/Linux. I like using a torrent client to download FOSS software because it does an automatic hash check and has a very good downloading speed, except when the ISP is throttling all torrent traffic, like I have on some of my internet connections. But then ISP's are known for remaining unpunished notwithstanding obviously criminal behaviour...
For windows, the most minimalistic and fast torrent client imho is uTorrent.
Though, ofcourse the speed of torrents is dependant on the number of leechers/seeders
utorrent has adware in ti. I use vuze
I use uTorrent, there are some hacks you can do to remove the adds
I legally purchase software. :) When I used to torrent, I used BitTorrent.
I use Transmission, it comes default with Linux Mint 14 and closes all connections when you close it.
I use uTorrent since it's light on my system, plus I can change some settings( which I don't always find in other clients) to really help my speeds. Not sure if changing some values and settings really help, but I've seen my average DL speeds jump from 500kb/s to 1.1mb/s
I've used µTorrent, however it is full of adware thus why I'm looking elsewhere.
I do purchase software legally, however I like to "try before I buy", and torrenting a trial is easier that going through the developers site, to download their download client to then download the program...
Why I purchase legally (now) is because of the hassle of cracks not working or failing after a few weeks/months or because of bugs and things not working the way they should. And the not being able to update factor too!
Vuze looks alright.
Anyone know how Deluge holds up?
Here is how to get rid of the ads in uTorrent
hit options then preferences
click on advanced
click gui.show_plus_upsell then select false
click on all the lines that start with offer and select false
restart utorrent and the ads will be gone

Legend.
Transmission on Arch, uTorrent on Windows, and kTorrent for all other Linux distros.
I use Transmission on Linux because It is good enough.
I use Tixati in Windows because it is not µTorrent.
Is uTorrent the new IE? Dammit why didn't anyone tell me about this?!?!
Tixati looks more to what I'm after.
No nonsense, straight to the point.
In no way is the BitTorrent protocol illegal.
It just feels better to buy software legally, but it is much funner to just pirate. Maybe I should just pay the pirates.
I prefer Deluge on my 'nix box to anything else. It seems to be more forgiving and has wiggle room on a 32-bit system whereas the other client apps I've put on it have choked in comparison. If you've got an older dual core box up and running, I'd recommend Deluge over a client with more of a focus on 64-bit. YRMV of course.
I use deluge. Utorrent and bittorent sold to hollywood companys. There very sketchy and untrustworthy with what they do with your data. besides all those ads... espically the ads that track what you do.
I use deluge for seeding torrents to a private tracker because deluge is more aggressive in making connections while seeding (and the tracker I am on has quite the seed/leech ratio) for every day torrenting I use Bittorrent, I removed the ads and all that good stuff they use to track you.
Luckily I don't have to worry about downloading torrents since it's completely legal over here to download whatever you want from whatever source you want so ISPs have no reason to block anything and besides that it is illegal for the ISPs to monitor your internet usage.
