Hey. I'm going to buy a new monitor to myself, But i just can't decide between BenQ XL2420T (The new 144hz model) and the ASUS VG248QE. The BenQ sounds awesome with Black Equalizer and FPS mode, and i heard it has awesome 3D, but it's more expensive (409 Euros, which is 549 USD). And if i get it, i wouldn't afford to get the 3D Vision kit yet. The Asus one sounds awesome too with 1ms response time and the nVidia Lightboost, and it's cheaper, 350 euros (470 USD) And i would afford the 3D vision kit.
I want a Monitor with Raw FPS power, good colors and 3D, but 3D vision isn't that important. Oh and BTW: I won't pay more than 450 € (604 USD)
PS. I have the habit to always make bad decisions...help.
I prefer IPS, when available. Unless you are seriously competition gaming, you will not notice the difference between 1 ms response and 5 ms response. And, to be honest, there is no good standard for testing the response times, so +/- 5 ms is within acceptable tolerances. In saying that, have you noticed that most TF panels cannot even reproduce the full 8-bit gamut that is outputted to them? Well, they can't. They have to do color approximations, and that leads to banding, ghosting and poor color reproduction. I got a nice HP monitor before IPS became a thing. It's got LED backlighting and a TFT display panel. It's very nice. But if I set it next to an IPS panel, the colors are nowhere near as saturated, the blacks are not as rich.
