There is a price difference between these two boards but I don't see what you get more on the Sabertooth board. I'm planning to switch from the asrock 990fx extreme 3. I have a FX8350 and a GTX770 GPU.
Has to do with running multiple gpus first. The Evo runs 2. The Saber runs 4. PCIe lane speeds are also important. But if you won't be running that many gpus at some point, just save some cash and stick with the Evo.
If you think you would overclocking quite a bit, then get the Sabertooth. Better overclocker from what i have heard. That's what i can remember off hand.
I'd either get a asus 990fx pro r2.0 or the sabertooth. The evo is basically the pro without the ability to Sli. The advantages the sabertooth brings are a better power delivery system at 8+2 instead of the 6+2 on the pro and evo. The extra power stability at 8+2 will bring a better potential for overclocking. The sabertooth also has more usb ports. There are 4 usb 3.0's and 8 usb 2.0's on the sabertooth compared to the 2 usb 3.0's and 8 usb 2.0's on the pro/evo. The sabertooth also has an extra esata on the back. Another advantage of the sabertooth is that a bios flashback button on the back io which would be very handy if you plan to do extensive overclocking.
I know what you mean, but when all is said and done, you'll achieve the same performance with both boards. The Gigabyte does have 8+2 power delivery in its favour but the rev3.0 boards suffer from VRM heat issues, which are resolved by tightening down the mosfet heatsink, sad it suffers from that but it's easily fixed.
I'm planning to do a bit of overclock but not as much. I'll just be running my 770 and a few things including a PCIE internet card, and a sata card controller. However, I have a lot of HDD connected so its difficult for me to choose which MB.
if you can afford the sabertooth i would say grab it, its a rock sollid board, with 5 year asus warrenty. and great overclockability, decent 8+2 powerphase and digi vrm design. just sollid stuf.
