I am coming from a stock hp rubber dome keyboard, I have no idea which kind of mechanical keyboard to get, any feedback/recommendations?
Edit: For gaming, and some typing since i am in highschool
Thanks

Well, that is very subjective. Some people like Blues other Reds, just depends on your style and what you spend most of your time doing. Ask yourself how you type and what you primarily use your keyboard for and then I could give you some better suggestions.
For me, I do a mix of gaming and typing (I write for a newspaper and a few blogs so a lot of typing maybe) and I find the Cherry MX Blue switches to be the best for me. I've tried the Reds and for typing they are just a bit too mushy. It is hard to tell if you actually hit the key or not and I found myself making lots of mistakes. The Blues don't have that problem. When I hit a key I know just through feel that the stroke registered. Just be warned they are quite loud though and that can be annoying at times.
Check out the video Logan just uploaded. Good overview of the different types of switches.
Good timing indeed: https://teksyndicate.com/videos/mechanical-keyboard-buyers-guide-cherry-mx-red-brown-blue-green-buckling-springs
I also do a lot of both typing and gaming. I personally prefer browns or clears. The reds are too mushy for my taste, and I can't imagine the blacks are much better. Not to mention that I don't like the idea of linear switches to begin with. Blues are alright, but I personally feel like they don't have enough resistance. I like the browns and clears because they have more resistance and still have a tactile switch. They're responsive, punchy, and just more robust. That's why I like them.
Thanks logan, keep up the videos
This nice article i found on Toms hardware will also show you the way the switches work. I personally prefer the blacks for gaming because they require more pressure than the red. but i prefer the blues for typing more than the browns because i can feel the tactile switch but only slightly which to gives me a smoother feel when typing.

I've got a Deck Legend
I switched from rubber dome straight to MX browns having never touched a Cherry switch mechanical keyboard before. I like it a million times more than any rubber dome I've ever used but I can't saw what is "best" for me because I haven't tried them all. From my reasearch browns just seemed like theyd be the right mix of resistance and clickyness, I love it for sure but it's definitely made me wonder about the other switch types.
