Hi there,
I am in the market for a KVM but I am not sure if my use cases are covered by any of the current models. This is what I need/have:
2x 1440p 144Hz monitor
Gaming PC with AMD 5700xt
Work HP Elitebook with Thunderbolt
5 USB devices like camera, mouse, keyboard, etc.
Ideally I would like only a single thunderbolt cable to the laptop, but two would also be fine.
I am not sure a KVM from Level1 for that does exist at the moment, right?
Could I use something like this together with the KVM to connect the laptop to it?
What are your recommendations?
Thanks!
Sorry I hadn’t replied to you before!
If you’re going to go this route of needing such a big extender, I would get an actual powered thunderbolt docking station like this one:
Introducing the Thunderbolt 3 Dock Plus - the ultimate docking solution for your Mac or Windows laptop. This smart, fast, and streamlined dock offers innovative solutions designed to suit both professional and at-home users. Enjoy super-fast data...
$137.01
You could very well have problems with a USB extender like that instead of a powered docking station.
Docking stations are compatible with L1Techs KVMs.
Otherwise, I would just get the DisplayPort KVM, connect the PC, connect the laptop with a Moshi USB-C → DisplayPort cable, & then buy a USB/SD card extender to plug into the KVM.
USB 3.0 HUB example:
Amazon.com: Rybozen Aluminum 6-in-1 USB 3.0 Hub, Powered USB Hub with CF/SD/TF Card Port, Card Reader Hub for Mac Pro, iMac, MacBook, Laptop and Desktop PC : Electronics
$16.99
Ethernet USB-C Adapter (For your HP Elitebook):
Buy Anker USB C to Ethernet Adapter, PowerExpand USB C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, Aluminum Portable USB C Adapter for MacBook Pro, MacBook Air 2018 and Later, iPad Pro 2018 and Later, XPS: USB Network Adapters - Amazon.com ✓ FREE DELIVERY possible...
