Should I purchase an i5 6600k with a gtx 980 ti or an i7 6700k with a gtx 980?
i5 6600k with an 980ti by far but if you can wait see if you can grab the 1070.
You think the 1070 will provide higher fps than the 980?
If you're not in a mad rush - I would watch for a whole stack of 980's and 980ti's to suddenly pop up 2nd hand after the 1080 drops
If you are primarily gaming the 6600k will be fine - im still using my 3570k with a 980 and gaming at 4k with no problems

For a gaming build the i5 and better card I the best option. There are definitely some bargains to be had now that the new cards are about to become available, don't pay full RRP for a 980.

Depends on the games you're going to play. For MMOs I would get a 6700K because there can be thousands of characters on the screen at the same time and graphics are not too intense. If you're going to play more mainstream games go for the i5 and the 980ti (or a 1080 maybe, they're on the same price range if I remember correctly).
neither, get a i7 4790k with a gtx 980 ti
buy the stuff used on eBay z97 mobo's are cheap and the 4790k sells for around the same price as a i5 on newegg
