The cooler will always work. Even if you dont have the software installed. I think msot of the issues are in the past. But a few years back the software would glitch and not change the fans to what you wanted and stuff like that. But that being said as mentioned i think most of the issues with the software are in the past.
I got the Liqtech 120X and i am pretty fine with it. A friend of mine just tried the new LC-Power LC-CC-120-LiCo. Believe it or not, it's kinda good. (for 35 €) Edit: Just looked at your CPU's Power. You may want to get something beefier than the LC. Maybe take a look at the Liqtech 240 if you want a huge radiator. Otherwies the 120X should be fine.
I just built a system using a Kraken X61. On its silent preset for a non-oc'ed 5820K at around a 70% load it stays in the mid 40 to low 50C range. Idle is in the low 30s. OC'ed to 4.4Ghz it was in the mid 60s using the performance preset with a somewhat higher load in the 90% range. Seems to be of decent build quality and not too loud. The CAM software is what it is. I've received about 3 or 4 updates to it in as many months. It can read the CPU pump and fan speeds and the GPU fan speed ok, but gets kind of lost trying to figure out the rest of the case fans. Seems to work best when you monitor the coolant temp and not the CPU temp. Has some other bells and whistles that I don't use, one being an overlay for GPU data while playing a game (ENB hates it and crashes). For $115.00 to $140.00 depending on where you get it from, if you are just cooling the CPU I have no reservations recommending it.
However, I can kick myself 'cause I just saw the EK Predator mentioned above, and unlike the Kraken, from what I can tell, it's expandable if you want to put a waterblock on your GPU.
As far as Corsair AIOs, I have an H50 in an Asus CG5920 with an i7 processor. Been in there for about 4 or 5 years I think and has yet to give up the ghost. Surprising since from what I've heard, a couple of years is the max. Speaks well for Corsair's build quality.
I love the NH-D15 as well, but when you spend a tad more you can get far more performance out of an AIO. The 280l for instance at around $120 does a lot better then any cooler I've seen around the price.
