Skullabyss is right. The FX 6300 is your best option.

are there any benchmarks that show its better for gaming then the 965?

I'd post some, but I'm on my phone right now. Check out anandtech.com. They should have comparison benchmarks for them.

I have a 965 and it never gets used 100% in any games pluss they dont cost hardly a thing right now.

Here you go.

Make sure to note the Lower/Higher is better on each benchmark.

ive decided to get a 965 and a coolmaster hyper 212 plus heatsink and overclocking the 965, all that for about 10 bucks less then the 6300.

Don't get the 4170. Keep away from the bulldozer series. The 965 BE is an amazing chip for the money, but in your budget, I would get the 6300. It has good clock speeds, easy to overclock, more "futureproof." It's just a great cpu.

bad idea, the 6300 is ALOT better than the phenom's...

6300>965be

how is it a lot better? from what i can tell the 6300 only has 3 physical cores, i might be wrong (please corect me if i am) and the 6300 cost 40 bucks more then the 965. if you can explain to me why the 6300 is worth 40 bucks more then by all means please do.

Well, have you seen the benchmarks at Anandtech. Guys here are trying to tell you that and you are ignoring them.

The 6300 has 6 Physical cores. The 3 cores you were talking about is actually what AMD calls 3 ''modules''. Modules are 2 cores in one module that share resources. So basically 2 modules= 4 cores, 3 modules=  6 cores, 4 modules= 8 cores.

It is better than the 965 because: lower power consumption, more cores for better multi-threaded performance, increased IPC, and higher clock speeds. Oh, and more cache
