Since my last card delema, the 660 ti failing on me, i decided to go back to the AMD 7870. Because I had the 7870 for a while before it started glitching out and did the blackscreen thing (I had the sappire card). And I wanted to know if all of the other 7870s failed like the Sapphire one? If some don't, could you please post the names down below?
as far as i know, the black and blue screens are a plague, and could occur on every chip in the HD 78xx series, meaning that you just had bad luck, so there is no real safe area, brand wise... :(
ASUS's DirectCU2 TOP series should be well binned (ASUS bins the chips again, and takes the best ones for the DCU TOP cards), at least thats what ASUS says, so if you get one, you'd have the most chance with that one IMO.
I have the 7970 from Sapphire, and ive had no issues at all.
you had a bad 660 ti and a bad 7870? the failure rate is pretty low on these things. so either you had really bad luck or something is your system/environment is causing it.
I have a sapphire 7870 which I've had no issues, but if the price is right go with a xfx because it has a lifetime warranty.
This xfx 7870 is $219 after rebate-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150606&cm_sp=DailyDeal-_-14-150-606-_-Homepage
