I'd say the 1GB flavor of the 7850 is the best GPU for the money, but the 7870 is up there, plus it can actually play games maxed out at 1080p. I can't say the same for the 1GB 7850. With that said, I think the 7870 stikes the best balance of performance and value.
Tom's Hardware has a monthly article called The Best Graphics Cards for the Money, and for Jan 2013, any of the Radeon 7800 series are the best GPU's for the money for their respective price ranges.
it's a trimmed down 7950 chip, but at a 7870 pricing zone, it's the new bang for buck card.
as for the price in dollars in the tomshardware link that's way more expsensive than it should be. and to prove my point the 7870 tahit iv given in the link matches tanner danger's 7870 in price in the link he has given, but for more performance.
Amazon doesn't specify, and neither does the model name. Tom's has the Tahiti 7870 pegged as the 7870 LE. About the only thing on Amazon that gives any indication that it's Tahiti LE is the clockspeed. If the VTX3D card is the Tahiti LE we've heard about, it's makes an interesting option, but then comes practicality. The LE will be faster, but the 7870 already has the power to drive most games at maxed settings will fluent framerate. What use is that extra power? Not to mention the MSI 7870 is cheaper, overclocks like a beast, and is equiped with better cooling.
well for starters amazon is not the best place to buy hardware, espicially in the uk. although amazon has it's place from time to time not often though. and the link i gave is of exact same card which actually confirms it's a the tahiti, lets be frank amazon is'nt the most informative site really. and in the uk also if you are talking about msi's twin frozr card it's only a mere £20 cheaper, which is a pitence. considering what you are getting for the tahiti it's worth the extra £20. you can oc the tahiti comftably to the performace of a 7950 and with a bit more to go on the current cooling solution, just cause the 7900 chip's are better for oc'ing compared to the 7800 chips, not to forget how close the tahiti is to a 7950 at stock. which frankly put leaves the 7870 in the dust even with msi's superior cooling solution. as for your what use is the extra power well what's the point in ocing the 7870 at all then? let alone to match the tahiti at stock? also going by what your saying what's the the point of makking anything past a 7870 or gtx 660? of course there is a point that's why company's spend the money to develope theese cards cause people want or need more. no offence but it's a silly counter arguement, that i could on and on about how there is clearly a point. at the end of the day you spend a little more for a hell of a lot more performance that's what bang for buck is about and that's what the tahiti is. the 7870 had it's time, but the tahiti is now here and it come's in at the right price. but i digress.
