When will ads stop this bullshit

So this evening I was watching a documentary on youtube until I noticed an add on my left. Keep in mind this is youtube. The add in question was for a rather erotic video game, an 18+ logo and a big bright red ADULT sign labeled it.

Confused and slightly shocked, I decided to click on the said add. All of my fears were sadly confirmed: it was not a stupid prank done by some bored billionaire, but a real erotic video game advertised on youtube.

I also sometimes have pop-ups from youtube, which is odd. And no I am not running AddBlock+. Although this will probably change soon.

I though that I may have malware on my computer, but after sever scans with various anti-viruses, nothing was there to be found.

So is youtube really going this far, is their add-filtering staff (I'm sure they have one) slacking off, is it google add's fault or simply because standards are so low as of today?

EDIT: Found my answer, no need for further help. Thank you

google ads targets what you've googled in the past, or even sites you've been to or anyone else that uses the computer.  this is why I don't let anyone use my computer without direct supervision

google themselves did not choose the ad for the video, they have just about anyone who wants an ad pay them and give them the ad, and they have a system that distributes the ad, its highly unlikely you have malware from an Ero Game you clicked on Youtube, google ads will however prompt you with more ads of that kind since you clicked on it

Adblock plus, you can have it disabled on tek syndicate, but stop ads everywhere else

also recommend HTTPS finder, then setting it to do not prompt you

When we stop giving big business to free reign to do whatever. They have absurd amounts of money to dump into ads. This is precisely why I don't watch TV. I mean the quality does suck, but there are a few good shows that are just ruined with excessive ads, and even a few steps further with product placement.

I haven't noticed it on YouTube, but I don't see ads at all. In addition to AdBlockPlus, I have an ad-blocker on my phone. My laptops get tethered to my phone, so an ad has to survive 2 ad blockers, a script blocker, and a flash blocker. Ads have been abused to death for a while. Even on Teksyndicate, they bug the snot out of me. Some have annoying animations, others are totally irrelevant, and borderline dangerous (malware, phising, etc), but I deal with them because there are some legitmate ads, such as System76, and I really like the content, and don't really have the means to support them. YouTube... meh. I'll support my subscriptions in otherways (ie, for music, I'll go see them live, or buy merch). I don't feel the least bit guilty.

I will have to have a little talk with my younger brother then...

Thank you for the answer though, didn't know that addblock was this customisable. Thanks for HTTPS finder too, might help quite a lot.
