When should I get a new PC and monitors

Hello Guys,

My current system is a pretty much from 2010 with a core i5 760 and an hd5870 8gb ram and a new 120GB SSD. I got dual 27" TFI monitors with defferent model number and horrible color reproduction.

I want to build a system that I  can notice the huge jump in overall experience. I spend a lot of time on the computer and I figured I might as well throw some money and make the experience better. the main thing that is keeping me waiting is 4K displays. If I can find some a reasonable priced IPS 4K display with nice color reproduction and a solid refresh rate I would go for them. So, when do you think 4K displays will come alive?

I cannot justify switching to a new expensive platform and only doing 1080p. The games I play don't even require that much horse power and I like to play on low settings for competitive reasons.

I do a lot of coding and typing (already got a nice cherry MX keyboard), but who knows what a new powerful PC will lead me to experience. maybe 3D modeling and Game design.

So how long should I wait to blow my money on a nice PC and monitors?

Thank you, please share you thoughts.

why not the 28th?

*cough* black friday sales *cough*

How much money are you willing to blow?

Are you doing a completely new system? Or are you planning on transfering some parts from your current rig to your future one? EG- ssd or case

I have no idea, I'm finding mixed dates aswell, but a google search showed me the 28th though. ¯\(◔‿◔)/¯

1. How much do you want to spend?

2. Black friday yes yes yes

on 4K.. unless scaling gets fixed soon and prices drop some more I dont think its worth investing in. Especially for text heavy work like coding having the tiny text at 4k might make it impossible. I recommend 1440p.

CROSSOVER 27Q LED-P 27" - These are amazing. They have a IPS panel with tempered glass up front. Its a little reflective depending on the lighting, but the colors are great. The P model pivots left and right and also rotates to portrait mode. Portrait 1440p on these is amazing for coding!!! I have two and thinking about getting a 3rd. They are $400 each so you can get two for the price of a nice 4K display. If portrait mode isnt your thing, any of the other korean monitors can be had for like $300 so there is that to consider too. Also these crossovers have a solid metal housing and they look very premium. Go read this review for a better idea

I want new everything, even desk and chair. I am willing to blow $3k on PC and monitors. Currently I have the Define R4 which is an amazing quit case. Quietness is a big factor for me which is why I chose to go with a tower heatsink. I don't know what other case mid tower case can rival the R4 in quietness.

1440p might be the way to go. I use Linux a lot and god knows a when they'll support 4k scaling.

If DDR4 prices go down this thanks giving I might go for the X99 platform. But at the current prices seems like a waste of money not to wait.

honestly I think you would be disappointed in the results you get from a 4k rig at $3000. With the cost of the monitor alone eating about one third of your budget, I'd doubt you could build a 4k rig to satisfy your gaming needs.  Even dual and triple GPU setups have been struggling to get solid frame rates in new games.  Playing competitively at 30 fps would be tough.  for the rest of your needs, it would be a solid build.
