When is the next 6-core intel cpu due?

The silicon will limit that from ever happening. When we get a different material, we'll get that.

broadwell - E will most likely come next year

Broadwell-E will be Q4 2015, as Broadwell was delayed. Next year we'll be looking at Skylake-E in Q4 2016. I'm itching to upgrade my 2500k, but will probably wait for Skylake-E, cheaper NVMe SSDs as well as DDR4. Skylake-E will be a new Plattform afaik, hopefully with an octa core 7930k.

If skylake-e doesn't bring 8 core as the "5820k/5930k" equivalent then I don't see the point in skylake-e at all.
The big thing about skylake-e on the mainstream platform is the improved IGPU.
And broadwell-e will indeed come Q4 2015 or Q1 2016.

To be honest I don't really see any reason for intel to drop x99 anytime soon, even skylake will just improve performance a couple of percent on a platform that already has DDR4 support.
And I also don't see any reason for why intel wouldn't have skylake-e running on x99 other than pcie 4.0 if its even out by then.

as far as ive read some rumors, Broadwell-E might come Q1 2016.
But ofc that are still rumors.

Lets hope broadwell-e isn't as bad as broadwell.
Really didn't seem better than a 4790k at all.

are they able to 3d stack the cpu core architecture yet??
maybe each transistor vertically connects to another set, and then now has 4 possible return options ?

3d stacking chips is only going to be useful for low power applications.
Power density today is very high, and stacking chips only makes it higher.

so, what counter with more cooling ?
i want more compute power,
so i only see 4 options
add more transistors needs better lithography
push higher frequencies may need new materials
design a better architecture
or make chips larger

Another type of semiconductor, germanium comes to mind.
More larger chips, like the xeon 18 core 2699 v3.
But something that would help a immense amount would be software engineers drop legacy support and start to use the new instruction sets.
You can run windows 10 on a pentium 3 because of legacy support durr.

BECAUSE>>>> REASONS

RAISINS.

oh lol
oh god lol
the wait bar for scrolling down @ 4:50

how fucking small could the install be without all the danm legacy shit i wonder
